Hatea Grand Prix – 16th February 2022 Race Results

This weeks feature image, is in honour of Mr. Kerry Suter, who unfortunately suffered some serious injuries as a result of a mountain bike crash last Saturday morning. A number of Whangarei’s running community have been helped tremendously by this chap over the years. I ran hard for him today. Our thoughts are with you bud!

Race 5, the final race of the 2022 Hatea Grand Prix Series started from the end of Waimahanga road in Onerahi at 6pm. 27 runners turned up for some primo running conditions, with a lightly dampened course thanks to a bit of rain in the afternoon and just prior to the start. Mother Nature served up the following weather stats for today; 21 degrees celcius & 83% humidity.

The bonus points system really took effect today with a few sneaky changes in the results table and everyone giving it their absolute all. John Kent was really motoring towards the finish line, which was incredible to see… the man’s an inspiration for sure.

Thanks heaps to the volunteers who made this race happen today, Rachyl Edge, Ian Birch & our Co-Captain Mr. Langford. Apologies for the lack of photos today, we have to blame COVID for that one.

hey guys,i hope this isnt going to sound like sour grapes or whatever & call me pedantic for sure.John Kent & I were both surprised when his name came out as top of the 50+ last night, based on the fact that we went in after Race 4 with myself having closed the gap to 1 pt & then in race 5 finishing first & second both with p/b’s but john’s only being his 2nd consecutive one as he didnt p/b in Race3.Forgive me if I have misinterpreted the points system & regardless hats off to you guys for a great series & concept.John & I both enjoyed bringing out the best in each other & dueling together each nite.He really is a legend considering he’s another 5 years on from me again.Where are all the young up & coming 50 plus men by the way?

Appreciate the correction guys,it must’ve been a bit stressful trying to sort all the results on the night before anybody went home.
