Hātea Run’s Weekly Training Sessions

The Hātea Run Week

Hātea Run officially meet for three weekly training sessions; every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

Wednesday Urban Pack Run

We usually leave from the Children’s Playground at the Town Basin at 5.30 pm. These runs vary between 5k & 15k to suit the abilities of those who attend. The routes are decided on the day and can be a mix of road and trail running. If you regularly make it along to this training session, you can safely say you aren’t a weekend warrior.

At certain times of the year, this Wednesday evening run will be replaced by the Hātea Grand Prix Series, the Hātea Night Series or by one of our special one off events. You can also subscribe to the Hātea Events calendar so you are always in the loop.

Get the weekend started right

Come along on Saturday morning for Whangārei parkrun or the Hātea 5k when Covid-19 restrictions are active. The run starts at 8 am at the Te Matau ā Pohe bridge in Port Road, so make sure you arrive in time for the briefing. If you are turning up to Whangārei Park Run for the first time, make sure you get yourself registered on the Park Run website and bring along your barcode.

Sunday Run Day

On Sundays we have a long “Lydiard” type training run from 10 km to 35 km, you choose. Meet at the Adventure Forest car park in Maruata Rd at 7.15 for a 7.30 am start. We meet there most Sundays every month but check out our monthly program to be sure, as we usually meet elsewhere on the last Sunday each month. Whatever distance you want to do, we all start together and stay together for the first few km. Remember to bring water as there is none in the forest. See you all there as this is open for everyone to join us.

NEW!! Early Bird Loop Group Trial

Starting on December 4th 2024, some of the Hātea Run crew will be kicking off their Wednesdays with a spritely cruise sesh from the usual Wednesday evening spot. But instead of 5.30pm, they will be there 12 hours earlier for a 5.30am start! There’s only one rule, look after each other and make sure no one is running by themselves. Feel free to run in separate groups as long as you all run to the slowest pace for that group.

This will be run as a trial until the end of January, designed for those who can’t make the Wednesday evening club runs.
