Hātea Grand Prix
This series is held in the later stages of the New Zealand summer, traditionally scheduled in the lead up to the Whangārei Beach to Basin fun run.
Come along, join in and challenge yourself this summer.
Hātea Grand Prix – Whangārei’s 5k Running Series
Starting in late January / early February each summer, Hātea Run’s summer series is served up as weekly 5k races along Whangārei’s beautiful Hātea river in Tikipunga. Just a short distance from the town center, the course starts from the Tikipunge football club carpark. Passing through the Tikipunga Sports Park on grass, we pick up the track as it winds alongside the Hātea river, before it morphs into the Waitaua stream and meets Vinegar Hill road for a turn around back the way you came to the start. Nicely shaded by trees along its length and relatively flat, it’s a perfect course for a summer evening 4.8km blast.
Series Highlights:
- 5 races over 5 weeks.
- 4 different age & sex divisions.
- Points awarded at each round.
- Bonus points awarded for improvement & attendance.
- Gold coin donation for non-members.
