2025 Hatea Grand Prix – Event 5 Results
Evening All!
62 competitors for the final round of the glorious 2025 Hatea Grand Prix on Wednesday evening at Tikipunga Sports park.
This series was mooted as an idea ‘way back’ when Hatea was quite small in membership numbers and we didn’t have much of a running program in the earlier part of the year. The plan was simple, lets chuck something together and get fit for the Beach to Basin, create a points scoring system so people keep coming back, give them bonus points when they go faster than the previous week, and reward them for there consistency by throwing in more bonus points for showing up every week. We even ran the series for the first few years on the Waimahunga track to familiarise ourselves with the course, but due to the popularity of the series we outgrew it and moved it to its current location which has been perfect (except for a few cheeky locals).
As your club president the growth of this event has been awesome to see so many of you come along and partake. It was also great to see so many in the U15 grade this year.
I’m curious to see what your thoughts are on how the series can be improved, feel free to leave a comment at the bottom of this blog.
Anyway let me dry my happy tears up and get back to the racing. In the U15s it looks like Luke Cains done it again (see what I did there) taking his 4th win of the series and finishing on 135 points beating brother Fletcher (2nd) and Blake Antonio (3rd). Well done young fellas!
In the W50+ grade Kay Lengyel came out on top with 155 points to claim the shield, midway through the series she also ran sub 6 hours at the Tarawera Ultramarathon 50km! Dianne Zucchetto 134, Jackie Grant 108.
In the W 0-49 grade Debbie Monaghan showed us the one place it is acceptable to beat your daughter and that was on the points table finishing on 139 points. Bree Monaghan 115, Jen Mills 108.
In the M50+ grade (historically the largest grade) Tim Goodwin came away with another “Goodwin” for the grade finishing on the maximum 170 points, Mike Gowing 126, and Damian Mills will be ruing missing 1 week finishing in 3rd on 105 points.
Last but not least the M 0-49 grade where consistency proved to be key with places 1-5 being the only ones that showed up every week. Allan Staite came home with the maximum points 170, Nick Wiessing 134, Jason Trass 86.
As always thank you to Dennis for organising an awesome series, everyone who helped on the day, and all the moving pieces in the background that make this event the success that it is, and Riccardo for taking the epic pictures which can be viewed here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1180189367443395&type=3
We will revert back to our usual Wednesday Night runs from the Town Basin Playground carpark, for more info check here: https://hatea.run/weekly-training-sessions/
Till next time Happy Running.
