The final event of the Hatea Run Night Series for the winter of 2024 was an absolute blast! Our Downhill Flying Kilometer event along the concrete path next to the railway was the perfect way to wrap up the series. A huge thank you to everyone who came along over the past five weeks. Your enthusiasm and participation have been fantastic, and it’s been brilliant to see such a strong turnout with 157 finishers in total. Also, a massive shoutout to our 21 dedicated volunteers – we couldn’t have done it without you.
Special thanks go to Dennis, Jake Mills, Damian Mills, Kim Antonio, Hannah Thompson, and Neville for their stellar help tonight. Your support ensured everything ran smoothly and safely.
As for tonight’s race, congratulations to Francois Joubert for taking the top spot with an impressive time of 3:00 flat. he busted out one hell of a finish having sat back in 3rd place until the halfway mark. Allan Staite and Alex Watson weren’t far behind, clocking in at 3:02 and 3:04 respectively. It was a tight competition with everyone giving it their all. Special mentions to Nick Weissing and Scott Moyse, both finishing at 3:05 (Nick was really 3:04.5), showing just how competitive our series has been.
