It was awesome to kick of the annual Hatea Night Series with The Spooky Chase. This is Hateas version of a handicap race. For those of you who might be doing a handicap run for the first time, or simply don’t know what it is, heres a simple description thanks to our friend ChatGPT:
A handicap run is a race where runners start at different times based on their ability, so that everyone has a fair chance of finishing together. Faster runners start later, and slower runners start earlier. The goal is to make it an even playing field and fun for all speeds.
Cool/Cold/almost freezing conditions greeted our 34 participants tonight at the mountain bike park. Runners were briefed and choose their start waves ready to be chased down by relentless chaser Allan Staite. Special thanks go to Dennis, Hayden, Kim, Danielle, Sarah, Jim, Olivia, Julia, Liz, Jen, Jake, and Nick for helping, and marshalling.
Looking ahead, next Wednesdays run is from the Waimahunga Track: Details Here
