Last Sunday of the Month Run – Kerikeri River Trail

Wednesday evening gathered 32 brave runners who shrugged off the less-than-ideal weather on the Abbey Caves side of Parihaka for our annual Spooky Chase handicapped run. Despite the challenging conditions, we were thrilled by the turnout—thanks to everyone who braved the elements!

Runners chose their start waves based on their 5km times, aiming to outrun our relentless chaser, Allan Staite, a regular running machine in our club. The standout moment of the evening came from 8-year-old Indie, whose sheer determination and grit secured an impressive victory. Her win was a delightful surprise and a reminder that age is just a number when it comes to running prowess. Her father’s dubious 5k time estimation may or may not have been a factor, you do still have to perform on the day afterall! Her smile for the next 24 hours said it all. Well done Indie!

Special thanks to Kay Lengyel, Hayden, Steve “The Warrior” Trass, and Dennis for their hard work in making sure the event ran smoothly despite the tough conditions. Your dedication and effort are greatly appreciated!

Looking ahead, get ready for next week’s run along the scenic Waimahanga track. Rain or shine, it promises another great outing. Check out the details and join us for more running adventures!

Keep running, keep challenging yourself, and remember—whether you’re outrunning chasers or pushing your personal limits, the joy of running together is what keeps us going. See you on the trails!
