What a massive month of mahi from the Hātea whānau!
May was packed with action across Aotearoa and beyond — from brutal ultra-distance efforts to speedy half marathons, international podiums, and one very special World Champs qualification. Check out what our crew’s been up to below. If we’ve missed anything, flick us a message!

🏆 2025 Athletics NZ 24-Hour Championships

AUT Millennium Stadium, Auckland — May 10th

👏 Huge congratulations to Helen Waterworth, who ran a jaw-dropping 515 laps (206km) in the 24-hour event. Helen was 1st place female and 2nd overall, earning her a spot on the New Zealand team for the 2025 IAU 24-Hour World Championships in France. Absolutely phenomenal!

Half Marathon

  • Dwayne Collecutt – 1:20:03 (37th overall, 8th M35–39)
  • Adelle Wilson – 1:49:50 (5th F50–54)
  • Richard Collecutt – 2:46:28 (16th M65–69)

Marathon

  • Hannah Thompson – 3:28:42 (168th overall, 4th F category)
  • Scott Kennedy – 4:18:12 (9th in age group)

🌏 Ultra-Trail Australia (UTA) by UTMB

Katoomba, NSW — May 18th

Massive props to Sam Rout, who absolutely crushed the 50km event at this iconic race in the Blue Mountains. With nearly 2,500m of elevation gain, Sam still clocked in at 4:19:28, securing 3rd place overall in a stacked international field. Legendary effort!

🔥 Shannon-Leigh Litt: 500+ Ultras and Counting

Yes, you read that right. Hātea’s own Shannon-Leigh Litt has been running an ultra a day (51km minimum) since January 1st, 2024, and in May, she passed the 500 mark. When will she stop? Who knows — but we’re in awe. Keep smashing it, Shannon!

A huge crew turned out to either run or support at the second edition of this unique event, where runners complete 6.7km loops every hour until only one is left standing.

👏 Special shoutout to Emma Steedman, who clocked a massive 30 laps (201km) to claim the “Longest Local” trophy. Epic endurance and a huge display of grit!
